Welcome to my Masters Capstone Project. Let me introduce myself, I have been married for 20-years and we have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls ages 9, 15, 17, and 19. My youngest and 17 year old both have aspergers, and my oldest has both Down syndrome and autism. I am a stay-at-home mom, a caregiver for my oldest, a Health and Wellness Coach, a dōTERRA Wellness Advocate, and a teacher to my youngest whome I homeschool.
I have my bachelors in Complementary & Alternative Health (CAH) and I am finishing up my Masters in Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) with my focus on aromatherapy and the use of herbs. Lord willing I will be graduating August 21, 2019.
I have created this blog as part of my Masters Capstone Project. I chose PTSD because I know that it is a growing concern. Despite the use of prescription medication, like antidepressants suicide rates among those with PTSD continues to increase. One of the symptoms of PTSD is severe depression, which when left untreated can lead to suicide. I lost my brother 4 years ago to suicide due to severe depression and it is my goal to educate and help others be able to overcome depression and heal. While it is my goal to reach out to everyone suffering with severe depression I chose to do my Capstone Project on PTSD within out military as it is my only way to truly thank those who have served and fought for my freedoms and those of my children. It is my goal to help you become the healthiest that you can be.
Allopathic medicine has its place but I believe we need a holistic and integrative approach to illness and disease, including PTSD. Diet, nutrition, exercise, meditation, massage, acupuncture, herbs, and essential oils/aromatherapy are all part of the holistic and integrative approach to medicine. We often call this alternative medicine, however one should remember that this so called “alternative” medicine has been around since the beginning of time and it is allopathic/modern medicine that is new and has only been around for the past 100 years or so.
Many individuals today are self-treating in fear of what his/her doctor and/or others will say. This can cause dangers, especially if there are any contraindication due to ones illness, disease, or medication one is taking. Do to the lack of education among allopathic doctors and alternative medicine it is important for you, yourself, the patient to educate yourselves in the areas of CAM in order to take control of your healthcare and to educate and inform your physician on the protocols/therapies you are participating in. Never be afraid to seek out the care from a good Naturopathic or Functional Medical doctor as they can replace ones Primary Care Physician if need be.
I am a firm believer in taking charge of my family’s healthcare. We do not run to the doctor because we have a cold, sinus infection, mild ear infection, etc., but rather I use essential oils. As I said before, modern medicine has its place, but often times its over used. Here you will have access to myself as your own personal health & wellness coach. I am here to educate you and to answer questions and help support you in anyway that I can. Please remember that I am not a doctor and I will not diagnose, cure, or treat illnesses and/or disease, but rather I will offer you support for your ailments through the suggested use of herbs, essential oils, diet, nutrition, exercise, etc. I will address the WHOLE YOU!!
